10 social causes on twitter that I find interesting !!

Twitter is a great way to stay connected and informed. But these days, I find Twitter is used to promote so many social causes. And some of these causes are really making an impact. People are listening and talking about them. I was amazed to find so much good work being done in so many parts of the world. And I get regular updates about their work on Twitter.

I am not just talking about the popular NGO’s like CRY or World Vision, who have been there for some time. Some of the newer groups are also making their presence felt through regular tweets. For the most part, these tweets are just not about their work but also on how much more there is to do about poverty alleviation, climate change or women’s issues. These tweets make me feel like I am much more connected to the world. My life doesn’t have to begin or end with my home and office. That’s the most amazing thing about Twitter. You are now a part of the global village and what you say and do matters. And you can be a part of social change, albeit in a small way. Either by retweeting a social message or by replying to one.

Here I have just listed a few social causes on Twitter that have touched me!!

1. Rang De – India’s low-cost peer-to-peer micro-lending platform aimed at self-employment to India’s poor

2. PATH Sure Start – Promoted by PATH, Sure Start works to educate women in India on safe child birth practices, saving lives in the process.

3. VillageReach - Improving logistics, IT/communication and energy sectors in order to increase the quality of medical delivery systems serving rural communities.

4. IndiaHelps – Working to reach victims of natural and manmade calamities in India

If you are an NGO/Non-profit using twitter, we would love to know about you.
