Weird and Mysterious Places on Earth

On earth, some natural phenomena can hardly be explained and they stand like the mysteries of all time. Some places are proven to be harmless, but some are life threatening. Not knowing why the place is completely different from nature's regular rule, the place makes you more curious as well mysterious at times. Every time there will be some unusual natural processes happening in these places.

These lists of some of the world’s most mysterious places have been exciting the human imagination from decades and also from many centuries. The secrets in some of these places have remained as secrets till date, but the people have not left the hope of searching for the secrets.

Here is the list of those mysterious places which prick the curious bone in you:

Mystery Spot

This place is a tourist attraction located near Santa Cruz, California. The place was discovered in 1939 and was opened in 1940 and it is famous for its disrespect to the laws of physics and gravity. Although the odd cabin here seems like lying on flat ground, it makes people who enter inside swinging all the time.

One of the many optical illusions at the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot is that it is a gravity hill which is a tilt-induced visual illusion. Inside the tilted room of the Mystery Spot, misperceptions of the height and orientation of objects occur.

The official websites speculated that extraterrestrials buried unearthly metals or a spacecraft beneath the Spot, or that carbon dioxide seeps out of the earth. Another popular speculation is that gravity is affected here, causing nausea and incorrect instrument readings.

Bermuda Triangle

The Bermuda Triangle also known as the ‘Devil’s Triangle’ is a region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean. The specialty of this place is that a number of aircraft and surface vessels have allegedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances from many years.

Many of the documents indicated that a significant percent of the incidents were inaccurately reported and numerous agencies have stated that the number and nature of disappearances in the region is similar to that in any other area of ocean.

But the mystery of this region was solved when there was evidence of massive methane explosion in the past. The presence of methane hydrates indicated enormous eruptions of methane bubbles that would swamp a ship and projected high into the air taking out flying airplanes as well.

Mount Roraima

Mount Roriama, also known as ‘Roraima Tepui’ in Spanish is the highest of the Pakaraima shain of tepui plateau in South America. This mountain is defended by 400 meter tall cliffs on all sides and it includes the triple border point of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

This mountain is weird because of its shape and it’s also mysterious because of the clouds that are always near the peak and the widespread fauna. The peak of the mountain is considered as one of the world’s oldest geological formations.

It is believed that this plateau is formed by the water and winds. But the mystery that has remained is that, some species which are found here can’t be found anywhere else in the world. It is considered as the ‘Lost World’ by the scientists

Rio Tinto

The river Rio Tinto is in southwestern Spain which is originated from the Sierra Morena Mountains of Andalusia. It flows generally south to southwest, reaching the gulf of Casiz at Huelva.

The area around this river has been mined since ancient times and so we can see a lot of minerals in the water. The iron content inside the water makes the water red. Even some of the bacteria enjoy their life in that river by exploiting the iron.

The weirdness of this river comes from its high acidity and it has made some NASA scientists to say that it is very similar to the underground waters of Mars as they have found strong evidence of present life on Mars

Fly Geyser

Fly Geyser also known as the Fly Ranch Geyser is a small geothermal geyser that is located approximately 20 miles north of Gerlach, in Washoe County, Nevada. This is a very little known tourist attraction.

This geyser is located right near the edge of Fly Reservoir and is only about 5 feet high. It is not an entirely natural phenomenon; it was accidently created in 1916 during the drilling of a well. And the strange thing is that it somehow grows up. As this geyser is located on private area nobody can enjoy its view from close

Easter Island

This Island is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeastern most point of the Polynesian triangle. The history of this island is rich and controversial. Its inhabitants have endured famines, epidemics, civil war, and slave raids and near deforestation; its population declined sharply more than once.

However these statues still remains a mystery for the researchers. The statues in the island are over fifty feet tall. But no one has a clue who built them? Why they were built? How they were brought there and so on. One of the theories is that a civilization had lived here long ago, but the people ate everything on the island and either they have moved some where else or they were exterminated

Racetrack Playa

:

The Racetrack Playa is a scenic dry lake featured with ‘sailing stones’ that leave linear ‘racetrack’ imprints. This lake is located above the northwestern side of Death Valley in Death Valley National Park, Inyo County, California, U.S.

This place is well known due to its sailing stones. This has remained a mystery as no one knows how these stones move from their original position leaving a track behind them. But some say that it is the winds in the valley, which are responsible for this movement of the stones.

Moeraki Boulders

The are the big attractions which are unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the wave cut Otago coast of New Zealand between Moeraki and Hampden. They occur scattered either as isolated or clusters of boulders within a stretch of beach where they have been protected in a scientific reserve.

These huge, gray, spherical stones were formed in sediment on the sea floor sixty million years ago and were revealed by shoreline erosion. If we take the local Maori perspective, thatse are the remainings of calabashes (gourds), kumaras (sweet potatoes) and eel baskets washed ashore when the legendary canoe Araiteuru was wrecked. The boulders can weigh several tons and measure three meters.

Moaning Cavern

The Moaning Cavern is a solutional cave located near Vallecito, California in the heart of the state’s Gold Country. It is developed in marble of the Calaveras Formation. It was discovered in modern times by gold miners in 1851, but it has long been known as an interesting geological feature by pre-historic people.

The sounds echoing through the cavern might be unnervingly like a human moan. But this sound is created by water dripping into holes in the bottom of the formation. This causes a drumming sound that echoes off the walls and is carried out of the Moaning Cavern’s natural entrance by the wind. Some of the oldest human remains known in America were found here

Great Blue Hole

The is a large submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 70 kilometers from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is in circular in shape. The analysis of stalactites found in Great Blue Hole shows that this formation has taken place 153,000, 66,000, 60,000, and 15,000 years ago. This is declared as one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world.

The circular hole is nearly 305 meters across and 125 meters deep and it has a fantastic coral formation and many species of tropical fish darting through the clear water. Many divers are also attracted with plenty of rare animal species and forms of life which can be found only in this place
