Have you Seen the Future? It's Made of Glass!

In a couple of years you will see a revolution of glass technology which will renovate the whole look and feel of consumer electronics. Major tech-companies are bidding large to come up with incredible glass technology in their devices like smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and ultrabooks. Go through the storyline that showcases the breakthrough in this field of glass and have a blueprint of how the future will look like.

Corning Needs Flexible Glass:

The birth of tough, scratch resistant and beautiful Gorilla Glass took place way back in 1960s in the labs of Corning. At that time there were no buyers for these glasses and the company stopped the production. In 2006 when the first smartphone from Apple was taking its shape, Steve Jobs, the late founder and CEO of Apple contacted Corning after realizing the need of such a kind of glass and there came our first iPhone with those gorgeous scratch free screens.

When the smartphone and tablet market boomed, these Gorilla Glasses took a great leap forward. An improved version named Gorilla Glass II has been introduced which is much lighter, thinner and durable. Recently Samsung and Corning has teamed up to come up with flexible displays which will make the next generation gadgets much more thinner, lighter, unbreakable and of course good-looking with some curves.

Google Needs Wearable Glass:

Google Project Glass recently unveiled an official teaser video of its upcoming virtual reality wearable glasses. These glasses are designed with special glass and mirrors which creates an illusionary screen displaying all kinds of information in-front of your eyes. The implication of Artificial Intelligence and wireless technology into these glasses have made them smart enough to interlink fact and show you directions, messages, do video chat and can even click a photo with a blink of your eye.

Google is doing more research on this project to make these glasses hit the market. Present consumer market doesn’t show any confirmation that it is ready for such a device, but it’s good to see a future tech come alive.

Microsoft Needs Smart Glass:

Microsoft is working on the concept of smart glass that can see through and uses high-end technologies like Augmented Reality. Microsoft’s vision to build up virtual reality supporting car windows and desktop displays on kitchen counters will soon become reality in a decade.

The prototype technology developed by the company which showcased see-through 3D desktop using transparent displays is a promising step to look forward in the future.

Apple Needs Curved Glass:

Apple’s obsession with curved glasses can be seen when you look at the ceilings of Apple stores. If the company is planning to implement this obsession on its products then it sounds exciting. According to Digitimes, Apple had purchased hundreds of special-purpose machines for the factory manufacturing of curved-glass displays which gives us more hopes in this direction.

One of the most convincing concept ideas seems to be a curved glass Apple wristwatch which can be clocked with all Apple products through iCould. Wish this dreamy device of Apple come into life soon

MIT needs Anti-fogging, Self-cleaning, Glare-free Glass:

Smartphone and tablet displays under bright light or sun light are still a pain. The main reason for this is the shiny nature of glass; the same nature also makes it less efficient to produce power from solar energy.

Recently MIT research has solved this glare problem of glass by building a surface pattern made of nano-scale cones of glass. This new breed of glass is smudge proof, glare free and is said to be multifunctional. These glasses also have an amazing feature; its water deflecting technology makes it self-cleaning.

How cool it will be when car windshields become self cleaning, the smart-devices which you owe are smudge proof and glare free.
